BREAKING: Four fresh cases of coronavirus confirmed in Nigeria
The Lagos State Government on Thursday revealed that four new individuals have tested positive to the deadly coronavirus, making it a total 11 cases in Lagos, still 1 in Ekiti.
Nigeria now has 12 confirmed cases of coronavirus at hand.
Lagos Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi revealed this on Thursday, saying that the government was currently following up over 1,300 contact cases.
Onyxnewsng reported earlier that the Federal Ministry of Health has announced five new cases of coronavirus making the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to eight as at Wednesday.
The Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire confirmed the cases in a press briefing on Wednesday 18 march in Abuja.
He analysed the five new cases of the diseases, saying, three of the victims came from the United States of America including a mother and a child while two others also from the US, and an American who came through Nigeria land border.
“We urge Nigerians to remain calm as public health response activities are intensified across the country,” the Minister of Health said.
Updating Nigerians on the development, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) tweeted: “@Fmohnigeria has announced 5 new cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria bringing the total number confirmed cases in Nigeria to 8. All 5 cases had a travel history to the UK/USA.
In all, this is coming after the federal government of Nigeria late last month confirmed the very first of the Pandemic disease in Lagos.
The case was confirmed by the country’s Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire in a statement on February 28, 2020. The Minister said that the case involves an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and just returned from Milan, Italy on the 25th of February 2020
The third case was independent of Nigeria’s index case, the Italian who travelled from Milan to Lagos in February, and a 30-year-old female Nigerian who returned from the United Kingdom on March 13.
Onyxnewsng reported that the new patient quarantined self during which the symptoms developed. She tested positive for the disease after tests were conducted then sent to mainland general hospital for treatment.
The state government confirmed that the second case was free of the virus.
