Update: COVID-19: FG begins payment of some amount of money to households

Onyxnews Nigeria reports that the  Federal Government of Nigeria on Wednesday began the paying out of N20,000 Conditional Cash Transfer to poor indigenous households at the Kwali Area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

This online news understands that this is part of the efforts of Nigerian Government in assisting in the reduction of the effect of lock down order under the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government following the spread of the deadly coronavirus in the country.

While starting the disbursement, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadia Umar-Farouk, said that due to the speedy spread of COVID-19, the Federal Government is giving out N20,000 to each person for the next four months beginning from March 2020.

She further explained that the President during his broadcast last week directed that the Conditional Cash Transfer should be given in advance of two months.

We have directed immediate cash transfer to the poorest and most vulnerable households in the country,” she said.

The minister continued, “Because of this COVID-19, the vulnerable groups have to expand, because we are aware that there are people who live on daily wage, so we are also going to look at those groups of people to see how we can get this food relief intervention to them in this period.

In the same vein, Nigeria has confirmed 12 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, with the deadly pandemic in Nigeria hiting to the total of 151 cases.

Onyxnews Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the 12 fresh cases of coronavirus in a tweet on Wednesday afternoon, April 1 through Twitter.

This online news platform recalls that of the four coronavirus cases recorded by NCDC on Wednesday, nine were detected in Osun State, two in Edo State and one in Ekiti State respectively.

The 12 fresh coronavirus cases recorded by the NCDC, brings the virus cases in Nigeria to the total number to one hundred and fifty-one (151).
