BREAKING: Popular Reggae music legend, Majek Fashek is dead

Popular Nigerian Reggae singer, Majekodunmi Fasheke, widely known as Majek Fashek is dead.

The Edo state born who was also a guitarist died at age 57 in his sleep.

Onyxnews Nigeria reports that Fashek’s manager Omenka Uzoma confirmed in a video via one of the social media platforms, Instagram that the legend died on Monday 1 June, 2020 in New York.

Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker,” Uzoma said.

“Let celebrate him, his achievements, and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified,” he added.

As one of the Nigeria’s Reggae music legend, Majek got international attention in 1987, with his self-penned tune, ‘Send down the Rain.

The singer also played a supporting role in the 2000 Nollywood movie ‘Mark of the Beast’.

Majek was said to have been bankrupt and battling drug addiction in 2015. After admitting that he needed help at the time, he was admitted into a drug rehabilitation centre in Abuja.

This reliable online news platform learnt that Fashek has long been battling with ill health, before his death. And in August 2019, he was admitted at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, London.

Meanwhile, Fashek’s manager also called on Nigeria’s government to set aside every March 7 which is Fashek’s birthday to remember the Reggae legend.
