President Buhari makes fresh appointment for his “next level”

President Muhammadu Buhari has made fresh appointment for his second term tagged “next level”.
The President has approved the reappointment of Umar Danbatta as executive vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
This was made public in a statement on Friday by Uwa Suleiman, the spokesperson to Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy.
Umar Danbatta reappointment was based on the recommendation of Pantami and in line with the Nigerian communications act of 2003.

The statement reads: “In an effort to consolidate the gains made in the telecommunications sector in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the reappointment of Professor Umar Garba Danbatta as the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission,” the statement read.
“Professor Danbatta’s reappointment was based on the recommendation of the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), FNCS, FBCS, FIIM, in line with the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
“While wishing Professor Danbatta the best, the Honourable Minister directed him to significantly improve on the overall performance of the Commission as well as ensure that adequate mechanisms are put in place to facilitate the implementation of all policies of Federal Government through the Ministry.
“Furthermore, the Honourable Minister enjoined him to ensure that the interest of telecommunication consumers, Nigerians and investors are adequately protected,” the statement also read.
At the same time, the President on Friday confirmed the nomination of the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the economy, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, WTO.
This was disclosed via the Micro-blogging site, Twitter by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital and New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, he had revealed this on Friday morning.
Ogunlesi said that the present Director-General of the intergovernmental organization, Roberto Azevedo who has been in the position since 2013 will be stepping down on August 2020, a year ahead of the end of his tenure.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Okonji-Iweala as Nigeria’s candidate for the position of the Director-General of World Trade Organization. DG Azevedo is stepping down in August 2020, a year earlier, so the election of the new DG, originally scheduled for 2021, may take place much earlier,” Ogunlesi said.
