Reverend Silas Yakubu Ali, the pastor of the ECWA Church in Kibori-Asha Awuce at Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State was assassinated by unknown gunmen.
Ali left for Kafanchan on Saturday, September 11, and was not seen or heard from again until his corpse was discovered by a search party on Sunday morning in the Kibori community, near Asha-Awuce, where he was attacked and macheted to death.
Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, appealed for calm following the “cruel and horrifying killing” on Sunday.
“Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, expressed profound sorrow over the report of the killing, which he described as horrifying and cruel. The Governor prayed for the cleric’s soul’s repose,” the commissioner stated.
“Going further, Governor El-Rufai expressed his condolences to the Reverend Silas Yakubu Ali’s family and the ECWA Church in Kibori-Asha Awuce, pleading with God to grant them fortitude and comfort in the face of this sudden and painful loss.
“The Governor urged law enforcement agencies to step up efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous killing while urging community members to maintain calm. Security agencies are investigating the area in general,” he added.
