BREAKING: Simi Supports Kenya Anti-tax Hike Protests
Simi, a renowned Nigerian singer, has expressed her solidarity with the ongoing protests in Kenya against the proposed tax increase.
The demonstrations, dubbed ‘RejectFinanceBill2024’, have seen Kenyan youths take to the streets to voice their opposition.
Unfortunately, the protests turned violent, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuring dozens more, according to Amnesty Kenya.
In response, Simi took to her X handle on Tuesday evening to lend her support to the protesters, condemning the government’s actions and standing in solidarity with the demonstrators.
She stated that “it is both powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights.”
The singer wrote, “I stand with the people of Kenya. It is both powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights. Godspeed and Strength. [Hash tag] RejectFinanceBill2024.”
In a series of other posts, she wrote: “Wow. When you’ve had enough, the fight is almost inevitable.
“African leaders – haven’t you done enough?
“I can’t wait for the day Africa is not a weapon fashioned against Africans. All of this amazing Black power and human resource, but the majority are not likely to thrive unless they run.”
