King Charles III Officially Appoints Keir Starmer As UK New Prime Minister
Britain’s Head of state, King Charles III formally appointed Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, as Britain’s Prime Minister on Friday, following a meeting at Buckingham Palace.
An official photograph captured the moment the King shook hands with Starmer, whose party achieved a resounding victory in the recent election.
Earlier, the King accepted the resignation of Rishi Sunak, the outgoing Conservative Prime Minister.
“The King received in audience The Right Honourable Sir Keir Starmer MP today and requested him to form a new Administration,” a palace statement read.
Sir Keir accepted His Majesty’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.
With this appointment, Keir Starmer became the new Prime Minister of Britain, marking a significant shift in power as the Labour Party’s centre-left ideology replaces 14 years of Conservative rule.
The Labour Party’s landslide victory signals a profound change in the country’s political landscape.
