South Korea President Yoon Announces Martial Law, States Reasons
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law in a national broadcast.
Speaking via YTN television, Yoon claimed that he would eradicate “shameless pro-North Korean anti-state forces”.
This measure aimed at maintaining free and constitutional order, amidst concerns related to domestic political opponents utilizing the parliamentary process to create a crisis.
Yoon did not cite any specific threats from North Korea but expressed the necessity of the measure.
He said: “I declare martial law to protect the free Republic of Korea from the threat of North Korean communist forces, to eradicate the despicable pro-North Korean anti-state forces that are plundering the freedom and happiness of our people, and to protect the free constitutional order.”
