Lights, Camera, Africa! AMVCA 2025 Nominees Revealed

The stage is set for a celebration of African cinematic brilliance as the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) organisers revealed the highly anticipated nominees for its 2025 edition. This year’s selection, encompassing a rich tapestry of film, television, and digital content, shines a spotlight on the outstanding works that graced screens between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
Leading the pack with multiple nominations are compelling productions such as “Lisabi: The Uprising,” “Skeleton Coast,” “House of Ga’a,” and “Freedom Way,” each vying for top honors in categories including Best Movie and Best Director. These films have resonated deeply with audiences, showcasing the depth and diversity of African storytelling. The acting categories are equally competitive, featuring a constellation of talent. In the Best Lead Actor category, Gideon Okeke (“Tokunbo”), Stan Nze (“Suspicion”), Femi Adebayo (“Seven Doors”), and Adedimeji Lateef (“Lisabi: The Uprising”) are among those recognised for their powerful performances. For Best Lead Actress, Chioma Chukwuka (“Seven Doors”), Bimbo Ademoye (“Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre”), and Uche Montana (“Thinline”) stand out as contenders, each delivering captivating portrayals.
The diverse array of categories also highlights the burgeoning digital content creation scene, with nominees like Iyo Prosper Adokiye, Maryam Apakagi-Greene, and Ariyiikedimples, Brain Jotter recognized for their innovative work. The awards also celebrate the talent nurtured through the Multichoice Talent Factory, showcasing emerging filmmakers from across the continent.
