Supreme Court Overturns Abure’s Labour Party Chairmanship

The Supreme Court has nullified the Court of Appeal’s decision that recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP). In a unanimous ruling, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court upheld the appeal brought by Senator Ester Nenadi Usman and another party member.
The court determined that the Court of Appeal had overstepped its jurisdiction by ruling on Abure’s chairmanship, after previously acknowledging the case concerned the party’s internal leadership.
The Supreme Court emphasized that leadership disputes are internal party matters, outside the purview of the courts. Additionally, the court noted that Abure’s tenure as chairman had already expired. The court also dismissed the Abure faction’s cross-appeal.
