Workers’ Day 2025: Suspended Governor Fubara Highlights Workers’ Role, Calls for Rights Protection

Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has marked the 2025 International Workers’ Day by lauding the state’s workforce for their unwavering dedication amid political challenges. In a statement issued from Port Harcourt, Fubara described workers as “the backbone of the state’s progress and a beacon of hope.”
He emphasized this year’s Workers’ Day theme, “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate,” as a call to action to protect workers from increasing environmental and socio-political risks.
Fubara praised the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, for its efforts to promote labour reforms and climate-sensitive policies that enhance workplace safety nationwide.
“Governor Fubara expressed deep gratitude to Rivers workers who, despite political turbulence and governance disruptions, continue to demonstrate patriotism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to duty,” the statement read.
He urged employers, both public and private, to uphold labour laws and improve working conditions, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to workers’ welfare.
Praying for wisdom for all leaders, Fubara pledged to maintain a work environment fostering dignity and opportunity, encouraging Rivers residents to remain hopeful that “justice, peace, and progress will prevail in the end.”
