Rivers APC Chairman Confirms Readiness to Accept Governor Fubara Amid Defection Speculations

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its readiness to welcome suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara should he decide to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Chief Emeka Beke, the reinstated Rivers APC Chairman, on Tuesday said that such a move would benefit both parties.
“Welcoming the governor into the party will mean the APC gains a strategic advantage in Rivers State,” Beke said. He explained that governors from opposition parties often face challenges in accessing federal support and participating in state governance.
“As the governor of Rivers State, he automatically becomes the leader of the party at the state level,” Beke added, noting that this would enhance APC’s influence in the state. He also offered to provide governance advice to Fubara, a change from the party’s previous opposition stance.
The Rivers State Elders and Leaders Council, however, remains non-partisan, focusing on the governor’s reinstatement. Anabs Sara-Igbe criticized the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) as Sole Administrator, calling it unconstitutional. On the speculation of Fubara joining APC, Sara-Igbe said, “We are not interested in any party. What we want is Sim’s return.”
Fubara’s media aide, Jerry Omatsogunwa, confirmed reconciliation talks with Nyesom Wike but declined to confirm any defection plans.
