FG Launches Nationwide Social Housing Project: 77,400 Units to Address Nigeria’s Housing Deficit

The Federal Government has announced a comprehensive social housing project aimed at delivering 77,400 housing units across Nigeria as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda. This initiative also includes the creation of Renewed Hope Cities in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano to further expand affordable housing options.
Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, provided details in a recent statement, emphasizing the ministry’s mission: “The primary mandate of the ministry is to provide mass housing for Nigerians, and we welcome potential collaboration with Ms Allen Le and Partners International Investment Consulting Joint Company in achieving this goal.”
The government plans to build 3,000 housing units each in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, while also constructing 250 units in each of the 36 states to form Estates, thereby ensuring a broad geographic reach.
Ata outlined the nationwide scope of the project, saying, “Additionally, the social housing initiative will deliver 77,400 housing units, 100 in each of the 774 local government areas,” reflecting the government’s commitment to equitable housing distribution.
A significant feature of the program is the allocation of 30 per cent of housing units to non-income Nigerians, a policy strongly supported by President Tinubu. “30 per cent of the 77,400 social housing units will be given to the non-income Nigerians,” Ata stated, applauding the president for maintaining this quota despite proposals to reduce it.
During a meeting with a delegation led by Allen Ke Nam of SV-NED Incorporated, which is interested in investing in affordable housing, Ata stressed the importance of clear partnership frameworks: “We need to know specifically how we will partner with you. Make a formal proposal to the ministry indicating where you want to collaborate with us.”
Nam requested government land to facilitate their investment and highlighted the socioeconomic benefits, including job creation and new skills development through innovative construction methods. The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Belgore, welcomed the collaboration and assured full support.
This initiative represents a major stride towards solving Nigeria’s housing crisis through strategic partnerships and large-scale construction efforts.
