TRANSFER: Man City Agree €55M Fee With AC Milan For Midfielder Reijnders
Manchester City have reached an agreement with AC Milan to sign Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, marking their first major acquisition of the summer transfer window, according to reports on Wednesday.
The former Premier League champions will reportedly pay €55 million ($63 million) for the 26-year-old, who has agreed to a five-year deal, though final details are still being completed.
City aim to finalize the transfer before the FIFA Club World Cup begins in the United States on June 14.
Reijnders joined AC Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 and netted 15 goals during the 2024/25 season. His arrival will strengthen Pep Guardiola’s midfield following the exit of Kevin De Bruyne.
De Bruyne, the veteran Belgian playmaker, is unlikely to feature at the Club World Cup, as a move to Serie A champions Napoli appears increasingly imminent.
City will also be without Mateo Kovacic, who has been ruled out of the tournament after Achilles surgery.
Guardiola’s squad had a lackluster 2024/25 season, finishing third in the Premier League and ending an eight-year run without a trophy.
Report claimed that the club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak admitted last week that City “probably should have been more aggressive” in the previous transfer market.
City will enter the newly expanded 32-team Club World Cup as defending champions, having won the title under the tournament’s previous format in Saudi Arabia two years ago.
