Tinubu Visits Benue Amidst Bloodshed, Demands Arrests and Peace Strategy
In the wake of a devastating attack that left over 100 dead in the Yelewata community, President Bola Tinubu has visited Benue State to offer condolences and issue a stern directive to security forces to apprehend the culprits.
At a town hall meeting with Benue’s political leadership, Tinubu told Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, “Christopher… We need to get our ears to the ground. Let’s get those criminals. Let’s get them out.”
During his visit to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, the President consoled survivors of the armed herders’ assault, demonstrating empathy and solidarity with the victims.
Addressing Governor Hyacinth Alia, Tinubu remarked, “Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed…Are you just realising that?” highlighting the political challenges that complicate efforts to restore peace.
He proposed the creation of a leadership committee to convene in Abuja to develop a sustainable peace plan, stating, “We cannot do without another. I will want us to create a leadership committee now to meet in Abuja to fashion out a strategy for lasting peace. And I am ready to invest in that peace.”
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, accompanied the President, reinforcing the federal government’s commitment to ending the cycle of violence in Benue.
