JAMB Sets June 28 for 2025 UTME Mop-Up Exam

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed that the mop-up examination for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025. This was disclosed in a statement by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communications Adviser, on Sunday.

The Board revealed that 96,838 candidates are slated to sit for the mop-up exam. This group comprises 5,096 spill-over candidates who encountered biometric verification failures during the main UTME, as well as 91,742 candidates who missed both the main and resit exams. To prepare for the exercise, candidates are encouraged to print their notification slips starting Monday, June 23, 2025.

The exam will be conducted in 183 centres nationwide, with some candidates placed on standby to ensure readiness. JAMB has also taken stringent measures to preserve the examination’s integrity by delisting 113 Computer-Based Test centres implicated in technical failures and examination malpractice. These centres remain under investigation, with prosecution pending for those found responsible.

Investigations have uncovered a network of malpractice syndicates involving school proprietors, tutorial centres, and certain JAMB officials. The Board commended the collaborative efforts of the State Security Service, Nigeria Police Force, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in tackling identity theft and examination fraud.

As a result, several examination towns have been deactivated, and affected candidates will be reassigned to the nearest available centres. JAMB has appealed to candidates for patience and understanding during this transition.

Dr. Benjamin emphasized the Board’s crackdown on impersonation, especially by undergraduate students, stating, “Institutions of those apprehended would be notified, and violators may face expulsion for breaching their matriculation oath, in addition to prosecution under the Examination Malpractice Act of 1999.”

The exam is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m., with candidates advised to arrive at least an hour early. JAMB reassured the public that mop-up exams will be conducted with strict supervision, deploying special invigilators and security personnel to maintain fairness and transparency.
