Reasons ex-DG of Imo Broadcasting Corporation stabbed wife to death- Family member

Many reasons have been cited by members of family of a ex Director-General of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, Theophilus Okere, who allegedly stabbed his wife.

The 85-year-old former IBC boss stabbed his wife Beatrice, to death on Monday at Imerinwe community in the Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, South East of Nigeria.

The couple had been married for 50 years.

Okere’s wife was a retiree of the Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo.

According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a souce in the community said, Okere had been suffering from dementia.

Dementia is an overall term for diseases and conditions characterized by a decline in memory, language, problem-solving and other thinking skills that affect an individual’s ability to perform everyday activities. Memory loss is an example of dementia. Medication and therapies are solution for this disease.

According to the source, Okere most times is not aware of his actions.

The sources, who pleaded not to be identified because he was not authorised to speak on behalf of the Okere family, revealed that the family had been managing Okere’s dementia for some time.

Okere has been down with dementia and the family has been managing the problem,” the source said.

Even today that he stabbed his wife to death, when he was asked why he did it, he responded that his wife was still sleeping.

The other Sunday, Okere went to church and said that his car was missing when in fact the car was parked in his compound,” the source added.

The Spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident. He said the police had commenced investigation into the incident.

It is true that the former Director-Feneral of the state-owned broadcasting corporation, Mr. T.C. Okere, about 85 years, allegedly stabbed his wife to death this morning.

“The command has commenced investigation into the matter,” Imo State Police Command’s Spokesperson said.
