Onyxnews Nigeria has brought to you what you probably don’t know about late former Governor of Oyo State, Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi.
Former Governor of Oyo State, Ajimobi, who died of coronavirus (COVID19) complications in a hospital in Lagos State has been in a coma and on life support before he finally gave up.
The death of the late governor has been described as a great loss to the people of Oyo state, the ruling party, APC and Nigeria as a whole.
However, many don’t know that Ajimobi was nicknamed “Koseleri” (something that never happened) in Oyo state politics because of the fact that he was the only governor to have served two consecutive terms in office since the creation of the Western state.
Here are facts about the late Abiola Ajimobi:
1. The late former senator Abiola Ajimobi was born on December 16, 1949, at Oja-Iba area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
2. He started his education at Saint Patrick primary school, Oke-Padre in Ibadan and completed his primary education at Ibadan city council primary school, Aperin.
3. His secondary education was at Lagelu Grammar School. He was active in athletics, table tennis, and football including serving as the games prefect during his secondary school days.
4. Ajimobi studied Business Administration and Finance at the State University of New York, in Buffalo, New York, United States of America, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. He had his MBA in operations research and marketing with a concentration in finance at Governors State University, University Park, Illinois.
5. He was married to Florence Ajimobi in 1980 and had five children together. His first daughter Abisola Kola-Daisi is an entrepreneur and founder of Florence H Luxury.
6. In 2003, Ajimobi became a senator of the Republic of Nigeria. He was a principal officer in the Senate, serving as the deputy minority leader of the Senate.
7. In 2007, he contested the gubernatorial election under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) but lost. Ajimobi contested again in 2011 under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and won.
8. On April 11, 2015, he contested for a second term under APC for re-election against two of his predecessors in office, Christopher Alao Akala and Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
In the event of his re-election into office as the governor, Ajimobi is the first person to occupy the seat twice and as well in progression.
Ajimobi’s wish to die at 70
The former governor had wished to die at 70, which was granted. He died at aged 70.
Speaking on a radio show that aired on Splash FM during the Ramadan season, he said he wanted to die after 70 because his own father died two months before his 70th birthday.
According to him: “When I was 40, I started telling God that when I clock 70, it is enough,” he explained to the Imams in Yoruba Language.
“My father died two months before his 70th birthday. So I started praying to God that I should get the grace to clock 70.
“After I clocked 70 and I seeing how sweet life was, I started telling God again that this age 70 is not enough please make it 96 years old.
“Now that you have prayed for me that I should clock 100, I am happy with it,” he said.
