Nigerian Navy commences operation “Calm water 2” on Eastern side
The Nigerian Navy has deployed troops on board two major platforms and gunboats in a special military exercise tagged “Exercise Calm Water 2”.
Onyxnews Nigeria reports that this excercise is targeted to fight maritime crimes including oil theft and piracy.
This reliable online news platform understands that Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral David Adeniran, announced the deployment at the flag-off of the exercise at the Nigerian Navy Ship Victory’s Jetty in Calabar, Cross River.
Adeniran said the exercise is aimed at fighting piracy, oil smugglers, Militancy and other criminal activities taking place on the Eastern Waters in line with the directive of Chief of the Naval Staff.
The FOC further said that Exercise “BEKAN MMON II” which means “Calm Water II” in Efik, is one of the much operational engagements that the command is currently undertaking, explaining that the two major platforms and gunboats will be manned by the command’s personnel.
The FOC said Operations BEKAN MMON will consolidate on the gains of operation calm water 1 which led to increase in shipping activities, crude oil production and other transformational economic activities on the Eastern Waters.
