The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has ordered quick deployment of new SWAT Officers.
OnyxNews Nigeria learnt that the IGP ordered SWAT Officers deployment for routine patrols across Nigeria.
The IGP’s directive was addressed to the 17 Assistant Inspector Generals of Police in the Force and Commissioners of Police in the country.
OnyxNews Nigeria quotes Vanguard reporting that a statement with reference number CH:5350/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.20/340 was tagged “Deployment of Newly Formed Special Weapon and Tactical Team operatives.”
“The Inspector General of Police directs that all recently selected and trained Special Weapon and Tactical Team (SWAT) operatives are to be deployed for routine duties across areas of responsibility immediately,” The statement read.
Recall that the Nigerian Police Force had disbanded the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS and replaced with the Special Weapon and Tactical Team, SWAT following the call for its end across the country.
SARS was dissolved due to brutality and extortion from the police unit to Nigerians.
