Aisha Faces FG, CBN Over Shutdown Of Cryptocurrency

Aisha has blasted FG and CBN over shutdown of cryptocurrency.
Recall the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directed banks to close accounts of persons or entities involved in cryptocurrency transactions within their systems.
The FG’s order was disclosed in a circular released to deposit money banks (DMBs), non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), and other financial institutions (OFIs) on Friday, February 5, 2021.
“Further to earlier regulatory directives on the subject, the bank hereby wishes to remind regulated institutions that dealing in cryptocurrencies or facilitating payments for cryptocurrency exchanges is prohibited, ” the circular signed by Bello Hassan, director for banking supervision, and Musa Jimoh, director of the payment system management department, read.

“Accordingly, all DMBs, NBFIs and OFIs are directed to identify persons and/or entities transacting in or operating cryptocurrency exchanges within their systems and ensure that such accounts are closed immediately.”
Reacting to the ban, Aisha Yesufu, an activist and well known critic of the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari blasted the decision, questioning why the government could not ban insurgency.
The apparently furious activist lamented that government can destroy businesses with just one policy.
Aisha tweeted: “In 2012, I realised the relationship between government & business. My business had been adversely affected by government policy. It dawned on me then that even when you mind your business and just focus on growing, government can destroy all you worked for with a policy.”
