Bayelsa Airport Gets NCAA Licence, Fixes Date For Flights’ Resumption, Destination

Bayelsa Airport has began commercial flight operations from Yenagoa, Southern part of Nigeria.
OnyxNews Nigeria reports the Chairman of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Nuhu Musa, presented the letter of approval to the state governor, Diri Douye after inspecting the airport.

Captain Musa said the airport met all airspace standards and are 100% ready for day time flight operations.
Musa hailed the governor for a job well done.
When will flight operation start in Bayelsa airport?
The Chief Press Secretary to Bayelsa state governor, Daniel Alabrah said flight will begin soon.
The airport has already been there for a long time but needed to get everything in right position, Alabrah said.
He added that the commencement of the Bayelsa Airport won’t be long but didn’t give any particular date when it will happen.
“Concerning when flight will begin, I can’t tell you that now because the process to make aircraft fly from the airport is something the management of the airport will handle and all of this process can commence anytime soon.”
“I can not give you a date now when flight will begin, because I am not part of those handling that aspect of the negotiation,” Alabrah told BBC.
Mr Alabrah stressed that getting the approval have been their focus. And its has been approved but no date has been fixed till other arrangements have been pur in place.
Places people can travel to from Bayelsa Airport
According to Governor Diri’s spokesperson, Daniel Alabrah, the likely destination to travel to from Bayelsa Airport is Abuja and Lagos for now.
And later other countries around the Gulf of Guinea can join, he added.
He said: “We’ve already spoken to Ibom Air and they have already agreed to fly from Bayelsa.
The likely destination is Abuja and Lagos for now because those are places people travel to regularly.”
“As time goes on we will review travelling to other parts around the west coast, the governor confirmed yesterday that Bayelsa is close to the Gulf of Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe.”
“So with time it’s possible we can start travelling to those area.
“You know international airport and all the countries around the gulf of Guinea are less than an hour from the Bayelsa airport,(maybe like 25-30 minutes), the distance are very close.

“But all these depend on the traffic and what Nigerians have to do for those countries.”
The State government official added that the airport offer opportunities to other state around the South-South and East region.
Bayelsa International Airport is located at Wilberforce Island, Amassama, Yenogoa, Bayelsa State.
The Airport was constructed in 2012 by the state former Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson. And the first flight in the Airport took place on 14 February 2019.
