Many soldiers are missing after a military camp is invaded by heavily armed bandits.
Earlier on Wednesday, heavily armed bandits stormed a military camp in Zazzaga, Munya Local Government Area, Niger State. The bandits, numbering in the hundreds, are said to have engaged the military in a gunfight. As the soldiers fought the bandits until their ammunition ran out, the bandits were said to have suffered a large number of casualties.
According to report, no soldiers were killed in the attack; however, one soldier, identified as the camp’s Resident Sergeant Major (RSM), was reported missing, and his whereabouts are still unknown as of this publication.

According to PUNCH, a trustworthy source close to the Zagzaga community, the bandits stormed the community around 4:00 a.m. and split into three groups.
While one party went straight to the military camp at the Junior Secondary School, about 500 meters outside of town, where they engaged the soldiers in a gun fight, the other group set up an ambush on the main road leading into town.
The third party was said to have arrived in the neighborhood to avoid any reinforcements from the neighborhood vigilantes and youths.
According to the source, the soldiers ran out of ammunition after two hours of gunfire between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. and retreated, but not before inflating heavy casualties on the bandits.

The bandits raided the camp after the soldiers fled, setting fire to the military vehicles and fleeing with another.
The bandits also set fire to the camp’s food store. “I believe the bandits may have used the military vehicle to rescue the wounded and probably the dead, since the soldiers fought them to stay still before their ammunition ran out.
“The bandits arrived about 4:00 a.m., and since then, gunshots have been heard until around 6:00 a.m.,” the source said.
