JUST IN: Nigerian Navy Builds Skills Acquisition Centre

The Nigerian Navy Logistics Command, Oghara in Delta State has began the construction of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association Skills Acquisition Centre, Onyxnewsng learnt.
The Command’s Coordinator of NOWA, Mrs Loveleen Lassa made this public during the commissioning of the NOWA’s Secretariat and the foundation laying ceremony of the association’s proposed Shopping Complex at the Logistics Command in Oghara.
Mrs Lassa said that the skill acquisition project when completed would serve as part of the NOWA’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to the host communities.
She said, “The skill acquisition centre will be opened to members of the host communities as part of the NOWA’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
“The structure will have offices and a conference room on the lower floor, while the upper floor will accommodate the Skills Acquisition Centre that will comprised tailoring and bakery sections.”
During her address in the occasion, Mrs Lassa, thanked the leadership of the Nigerian Navy Logistics Command, Oghara, led by the Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Sileranda Lassa for providing NOWA with a befitting Secretariat.
She said, the association had no office in the Command until October 2020 when the FOC allocated a section of the building complex for the establishment of the Secretariat.
“Before now, the Nigerian Navy Logistics Command, Oghara had no offices or structures for NOWA.
“In October 2020, the Command’s Headquarters under the leadership of Rear Admiral Lassa allocated a section of this complex for the establishment of NOWA Secretariat.

“The NOWA Secretariat has recently been completed and tastefully furnished to provide an enabling environment for carrying out the activities of NOWA in the Command.
“The Secretariat has an office section, reception section, waiting area, conference section as well as conveniences,” she said.

The National President of NOWA, Hajiya Nana Gambo, wife of the Chief of Naval Staff, who inaugurated the Secretariat stated that the desire of the NOWA, was to establish zones in every Naval formations of the Nigerian Navy across the country.
Mrs Gambo, while also performing the foundation laying stone of the proposed Shopping Complex, said that the gesture would enable better organisation of the association as well as enhanced reaching out to fellow women living within and outside the barracks.
She applauded the leadership qualities of Rear Admiral Lassa, describing him as a “beacon of hope to NOWA and the Nigerian Navy”.
Her words in full: “NOWA has always sort to establish zones in every Naval formations to enable better organisation and most importantly better reach to our fellow women in and out of the barracks.
“Today, I can officially say we have a fully functional NOWA Secretariat in Oghara which I am privileged to inaugurate.
“Additionally, the foundation laying of the proposed NOWA Shopping Complex within the barrack in Oghara is another landmark achievement under the leadership of the FOC.
“This complex will afford more women the opportunities to be empowered by participating in trading activities.
“This act of genuine support the FOC has shown to NOWA will impact not only on NOWA but a lot of families, who will reap from the benefit,” she said.
