Buhari Considering Releasing Kanu Unconditionally

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Friday met with influential Igbo leaders and promised that he would consider the unconditional release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

This decision, Onyxnewsng gathered he explained was to prove that he was ready to go any length to deescalate the tension in South Eastern part of the country.

The president made this promise in a meeting at the State House with the 93 year old one time minister of Aviation, Mbazulike Amaechi, former governor of Anambra state, Chukwuemeka Ezife and other state men.

The Igbo leader, Amaechi, lamented about how businesses were collapsing, education crumbling in the southeast.

He described the present situation as ‘painful and pathetic’.

The controversy surrounding IPOB, its leader, Mazi Kanu, and his arrest, has plunged Igbo land into a reign of fear.

The president contemplation of an unconditional release of Kanu, who is held on counts of treason, is contrary to the doctrine of separation of powers of the executive and judiciary.

You’ve made an extremely difficult demand on me as leader of the country.”

He said to the state men. “The implication of your request is very serious. The demand is heavy but I will consider it.”

Stressing his preference to not interfere in the powers of the judiciary, the president said, “I said the best thing was to subject him (Nnamdi Kanu) to the system. Let him make his case in court, instead of giving very bad impression of our country from the outside. I feel it’s a favour to give him this opportunity.
