Update: See What IPOB Is Planning Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced its plan to organise a massive protest in Pretoria and Johannesburg cities of South Africa.
In an e-flier released on social media on Monday, the Biafra group said the peaceful protest is to demand the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
IPOB stated that the protest titled, “Gauteng Mega Protest” will take place on Wednesday, 19th January and Thursday, 20th January from 8 am to 5pm.
The poster which bears Kanu’s photo also has inscriptions like “#FreeMaziNnamdiKanu, #SupportBiafraReferendum,” and described him as, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a prisoner of conscience.”
Recall that IPOB had declared a sit-at-home for Tuesday ahead of the trial of its leader.
The IPOB leader is billed to appear before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.
In a statement on Saturday, the group asked its supporters and members to boycott all social and economic activities in the southeast for that day.
The group claimed that the sit-at-home will enable people of the southeast to give solidarity to its leader.
It, however, dismissed reports that there will be a sit-at-home on Wednesday and Thursday. IPOB also reminded its followers that another court in Abia State was expected to deliver a judgment on Wednesday over Kanu’s fundamental human rights.
