2023 Election: RCCG Begins Campaign For Osinbajo
Onyxnewsng reports that the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has commenced campaign for its pastor, Yemi Osinbajo ahead of 2023 election.
Recall that the Redeemed Church launched a new department, political department which it announced in a statement made available to the media months back.
There had been speculations that the RCCG department of Politics is aimed at canvassing support for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in his 2023 presidential race, but the notion was quickly discarded by Timothy Olaniyan, the head of the department during the weekend.
Few weeks ago, Timothy Olaniyan, the head of the department that had previously denied mobilising support for the vice president’s ambition, said Mr Osinbajo, being a “child of God,” remained the only aspirant capable of changing the governance narrative in Nigeria.
“As of today, Pastor Yemi Osinbajo is not just a pastor; he is still a child of God,” he said.
Mr. Olaniyan told journalists at the inaugural meeting of the New Era Nigeria (NEN) political organisation that the country deserved an honest leader.
“It’s past time for our eyes to be opened. We don’t want those baits; instead, we want someone who will make a promise to our children and keep it,” he said.
“If you say education would be free, I want you to get there and make it free so we don’t keep producing adolescents with no future.”
Despite the church’s continued denial of anointing or endorsing a candidate for the 2023 election, netizens have expressed grave alarm at Timothy Olaniyan’s latest comments.
The RCCG’s engagement in politics, according to several twitter users and documented by ENigeria Newspaper, is believed to further muddy the thin line between religious bigotry and the Nigerian state.
A Twitter user, Ayekooto said, “RCCG must not blackmail any member or any Christian . If a Muslim can nominate him as VP, no one will as us h8te any Muslim just to send political agenda. SAY NO TO HATE”, he concluded.
Another Twiter user, OMO JAGABAN wrote, “RCCG have endorsed Osinbajo, nobody should cry when MURIC and JNI endorse BOLA TINUBU.”
Undone, another user with the handle, Favour Abbah wrote: “I’m a Nigerian, I’m also an RCCG member, putting sentiment and Church membership bias aside with what I’ve seen come to conclusion that #PeterObi4President is not just me best option but Nigeria’s light at the end of the tunnel. I have my PVC and I’ll vote for Peter Obi.”
