Date Heatwave Will End In Britain Emerges
Brits have been basking in a glorious heatwave with temperatures in many regions warmer than in the Mediterranean.
A crest of hot air driven from the south resulted in 30C high on Saturday, and whilst the mercury slightly dropped on Sunday, it’s still very warm, even with the massive showers occasionally breaking up the sun.
Although forecasters predict further storms and downpours on Monday, as the week progresses, “drier and sunnier” conditions are likely with temperatures set to remain in the mid-to-high 20s for another week.
Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud said on Monday: “The weather will try and settle down on Tuesday and mid-week. But it will maintain this well-above-average temperature. Most of the UK will meet heatwave criteria.”
By Friday June 16 however, temperatures will begin to cool slightly, falling to 24C and below in most areas – and hopefully bringing with it an end to the humid and muggy nights that have made it difficult for so many to sleep.
Temperatures are expected to pick up again relatively soon following this temporary relief.
Looking further ahead, the Met Office said until June 23, although it will be “fine and sunny for most,” conditions will feel more bearable than in recent days.
However, forecasters added that between June 23 and July 8 “temperatures are more likely to be above average in general” with the majority of the country to feel “warm or very warm” and “drier than average overall”.
In the meantime, sleep expert Nic Shacklock from Online-Bedrooms .co.uk has shared a hack to get you through the night comfortably.
He explained: “We’re not used to having to sleep in hotweatherhere in the UK. Our houses are super insulated, and not many of us will have built-in air conditioning in our homes, which means that when we do get warm weather, it can often be a struggle to sleep.
“There are also quick fixes you can do at night to help you cool while you sleep, like putting ice in front of your fan or sleeping in cold socks.”
The expert also advises people to keep their curtains and blinds closed as allowing the sunlight to beam through the windows is one of the main factors in heating the room up.
It was very hot on Monday, with plenty of sunny spells. Scattered slow-moving thundery showers developed during the day. Still warm, but cooler near the eastern coasts.
On Tuesday, it was a very warm and muggy day, some showers, most places dry with sunny spells. It was a little fresher along the eastern coasts.
From today, Wednesday to Friday 16th June, as high pressure builds, it will turn more settled with plenty of dry weather and long periods of warm sunshine, weather forecast predicted.
