Nigerian Governor Declares Free Basic Education In Government Schools
The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has announced free Onyia compulsory basic education in public schools across the state.
Soludo made the pronouncement on Thursday at Premier Primary School, Obosi, near Onitsha, adding that education from early childhood care to Junior Secondary Schools was free and compulsory for school-age children in the state.
He said, “Beginning this term, so far as I’m on this chair as governor of Anambra, in public schools owned by government and run by government, children from nursery to primary 6 to JSS 3, none of them will be required, under any circumstances, to pay one kobo.”
The announcement was welcomed with cheers from the pupils and staff of the school.
