Gov Aiyedatiwa Presents Ondo State 2024 Appropriation Bill Into Law
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State officially approved and signed the state’s 2024 Appropriation bill into law.
The budget estimate, totaling N384 billion, was presented by Aiyedatiwa under the theme “Budget of Economic Resilience” to the State House of Assembly.
This budget signifies a significant allocation towards capital expenditure, amounting to N222.99 billion or 56.23% of the total, while recurrent expenditure accounts for N172.26 billion or 43.77%.
During the budget signing ceremony in Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the Appropriation bill underwent thorough deliberations and consultations with various government organs, as well as all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
He expressed his gratitude to the Speaker and lawmakers for meticulously scrutinizing and swiftly passing the bill.
The governor highlighted that the budget primarily directs attention to human capital development, aiming to enhance the well-being and capabilities of the state’s residents.
Additionally, it includes provisions to tackle climate change, promote a clean and sustainable environment, prioritize rural development, and ensure food security.
Aiyedatiwa also emphasized that funds have been allocated to complete ongoing legacy infrastructure projects initiated by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
“The executive arm of government will put its shoulder to the wheel to implement the 2024 budget with the required probity and transparency it deserves.
“In pursuit of this, the 2024 budget details will be made available on the Ondo State portal www.ondobudget.org, for access and monitoring.
“As we keep implementing people-centred projects and programmes in line with our REDEEMED Agenda, we will continue to improve on our revenue drive while cutting down on our recurrent costs given the prevailing economic realities.
“I wish to therefore solicit for the continuous understanding and cooperation of our people, to understand the temporary pains occasioned by the recent petrol subsidy removal.
“This administration would continue to put measures in place to cushion the effects until we can weather through the storm, hopefully, shortly,” he said.
During the event, a minute of silence was observed in honor of the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who passed away on Wednesday.
Furthermore, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan, expressed his appreciation to the Assembly for their diligence in ensuring the active participation of all MDAs throughout the budgeting process.
