BREAKING: Senator Ningi Pardoned, Recalled After 77 Days Suspension
Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi has been granted a pardon and called back into the Senate following a 77-day suspension.
Initially suspended on March 12, 2024, Senator Ningi’s recall was set in motion on Tuesday through a motion put forth by Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro.
Senator Moro expressed remorse on behalf of Senator Ningi and committed to taking full responsibility for his actions, acknowledging the seriousness of the suspension imposed.
Throughout the suspension period, Senator Ningi’s behavior was under close examination and discussion within the legislative assembly.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced Senator Ningi’s unconditional recall after a brief plea by fellow lawmakers.
Senator Akpabio highlighted Senator Ningi’s contributions and labeled him as a respected member of the Senate.
He stressed that the decision to recall Senator Ningi goes beyond religious and ethnic distinctions.
Senator Ningi’s recall, coming two weeks shy of the completion of his three-month suspension (which would have ended on June 12, 2024), signifies a significant development.
It is essential to remember that the Senate had suspended Senator Ningi over allegations relating to the N3.7 trillion padding of the 2024 Budget back in March.
The suspension, following a turbulent session in the Senate, lasted for three months.
