JUST IN: Finidi George Resigns As Super Eagles Manager
Finidi George has tendered his resignation as the head coach of the Super Eagles, effective immediately.
This development comes on the heels of the Nigeria Football Federation’s decision to appoint a foreign technical adviser.
Finidi’s tenure, which began on April 29, 2024, was marked by a draw against South Africa and a loss to Benin Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches.
His resignation was announced by Toyin Ibitoye, former media officer of the Super Eagles, on his social media platform.
Ibitoye wrote: “News just in: Finidi George @FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his @NGSuperEagles manager position.”
Recall that Finidi George took the reins on April 29, 2024, succeeding Jose Peseiro, whose contract had expired in February.
Despite his short stint, Finidi presided over two crucial matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, yielding a 1-1 stalemate against South Africa and a 2-1 loss to Benin Republic, before his tenure came to an abrupt end.
