Mauritania’s Presidential Election Gets Underway As Voting Starts
On Saturday, citizens of Mauritania headed to the polls to determine whether President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani would be re-elected as the leader of the country.
With approximately 1.9 million registered voters, the election offers a choice between seven candidates vying for the presidency of this West African nation.
Notably, Mauritania has maintained relative stability in the Sahel region, resisting the spread of extremism and poised to become a significant producer of natural gas.
