BREAKING: MTN Closes Offices Across The Country Amid SIM Card Controversy
MTN, the telecommunications giant, has closed all its stores and service centers across Nigeria in response to a recent incident where some subscribers expressed outrage after their lines were barred by the network provider.
A widely shared video on social media showed a mob destroying a barricade fence outside the MTN office in FESTAC Town, Lagos, reflecting the anger of subscribers over the network’s action related to National Identification Number and SIM registration mismatches.
Although the video depicted a large crowd of upset subscribers vandalizing the company’s office, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer reassured the public that normalcy had been restored at the scene by the Divisional Police Officer of FESTAC and their team.
“This should not be the way to go!”
In light of these events, MTN announced on Tuesday that it would be closing its shops nationwide.
“Yello customer, please be informed that our shops nationwide will be closed today, 30th July 2024,” the statement sighted on X read.
