BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Tegbe As DG China-Nigeria Strategic Partnership
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the Director-General and Global Liaison for the strategic partnership between Nigeria and China.
This appointment signifies a mutual agreement between the two nations to form hospital alliances and engage in joint medical research efforts.
The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement released on Sunday.
Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, a distinguished civil engineering graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University with a first-class degree in 1988, is set to directly report to the President in his new role.
Tegbe, who is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, will be tasked with presenting a strategic action plan promptly to ensure Nigeria maximizes the benefits from the agreements with China in Beijing.
“As the czar of the strategic partnership, he will lead day-to-day operations, engage continuously with the Chinese counterparts, and ensure that all deliverables are met and synchronised with national development goals.
“In the strategic plan, he will outline the specific deliverables, timelines, and key performance indicators for each area of cooperation. This will include priority projects, projected investments and expected socioeconomic outcomes,” part of the statement read.
Recall that President Xi Jinping of China pledged generous financial support, amounting to 360 billion yuan (approximately $51 billion), to African nations over the next three years during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
President Tinubu, during his official visit preceding the FOCAC, secured China’s commitment to bolster Nigeria’s economic diversification initiatives, infrastructure advancement, technology exchange, and employment opportunities.
