Legendary Actor Hanks Anuku Breaks Silence on the Real Reasons Behind His Failed Marriage

Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has shared insights into the collapse of his marriage to his ex-wife from Asaba, revealing how the experience left him emotionally scarred and wary of relationships with Nigerian women.
Speaking on a recent episode of Nollywood Hardcore: The Legend’s Untold Story, Anuku explained that his marriage failed due to a lack of compatibility. He described the union as a mistake, emphasizing that his ex-wife was not the mother of his children but had a stepdaughter from a previous relationship.
Reflecting on the aftermath of the divorce, which occurred over a decade ago, Anuku admitted that the separation deeply affected him. Despite having another woman who bore him two children, he clarified that he never remarried, stating that the mother of his kids does not fit his ideal partner.
“I like to be married and happy in the marriage,” he said. “I have dated for a couple of years, and I knew she wasn’t going to be my wife. I want real love—agape love, not just infatuation.”
The actor further disclosed that his past marriage left him fearful of Nigerian women, revealing that he found himself more compatible with Caucasian women during his time abroad.
“When I was overseas, I never dated any colored woman. Blonde women are my preference. They never bothered me until I returned to Nigeria,” he admitted.
Detailing issues in his failed marriage, Anuku shared that his ex-wife was financially demanding and pressured him to quit acting due to jealousy over his interactions with female colleagues.
“I was in love with her, and we were cool together, but she was always asking for money and wanted me to stop acting. I told her I couldn’t.”
Anuku’s candid revelations have sparked conversations about relationships, compatibility, and cultural dynamics in marriage.
