LASU to Graduate 8,711 Students in 28th Convocation

Lagos State University (LASU) has revealed Nwosu Isioma Sybil from the Biochemistry Department as the top graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session, achieving an impressive Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93. The announcement was made by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, during a pre-convocation press conference held at the university’s main campus in Ojo on Thursday, marking the start of LASU’s 28th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled from April 3 to April 10, 2025.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello disclosed that 8,711 students will be awarded first-degree certificates. Among them, 192 achieved first-class honors, 3,076 earned Second Class Upper Division, 4,397 received Second Class Lower Division, 990 graduated with Third Class, and 39 with a pass. Additionally, 17 students will receive unclassified MBBS and BDS degrees.

The university will also confer postgraduate degrees on 2,235 students, including 302 Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,132 Academic Master’s degrees, 639 Professional Master’s degrees, 125 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, and 37 Professional Doctoral degrees.

In recognition of their contributions, LASU will award honorary doctorate degrees to Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd.), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and former Military Governor of Lagos State, and Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.

Furthermore, 971 students completed diploma programs, with 123 earning distinctions, 550 obtaining upper credits, 287 receiving lower credits, and 11 finishing with a pass.
