Mines Ministry Operations Halted in Protest of 20-Year-Old Unfair Dismissal

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) today, Thursday, demonstrated its unwavering resolve by staging a significant protest at the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development’s headquarters in Abuja, effectively shutting down the ministry’s daily operations.
This strong reaction from the labour union stems from the ministry’s alleged continued defiance of a court judgment that was issued to address what the NLC describes as the unlawful sacking of one of its members, Comrade Victor Ekpaha, two decades ago.
The protesting NLC members are not only demanding the immediate reinstatement of Comrade Ekpaha to his rightful position within the ministry but are also forcefully advocating for the full settlement of all his due salaries, allowances, and other financial entitlements that have accumulated over the twenty years since his contentious dismissal.
The union’s action signals a clear message of their determination to fight against perceived injustices against their members and ensure that judicial pronouncements are respected and implemented by government institutions.
