Lagos 2025: LASIEC Unveils Detailed LG Election Schedule

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has formally announced July 12, 2025, as the date for the state’s local government elections, signaling the start of a comprehensive electoral process. LASIEC, through its spokesperson Tope Ojo, confirmed the election will cover all 57 chairmanship and 376 councillorship positions across Lagos’s LGAs and LCDAs.
With the current local council officials’ tenure nearing its end, LASIEC is actively preparing to ensure a seamless transition of power. This announcement is crucial for maintaining democratic continuity at the grassroots level.
Recognizing the possibility of electoral disputes, LASIEC has also scheduled a supplementary election for July 19, 2025, to address any necessary reruns. This strategic planning underscores LASIEC’s commitment to a fair and conclusive electoral outcome.
Lagos residents are now anticipating the release of detailed electoral guidelines and voter registration updates. Political parties and candidates are expected to intensify their campaigns as the state prepares for these pivotal local elections.
The outcome of these elections will have a significant impact on local governance and development, shaping the future of Lagos’s communities.
