Ondo Monarchs Called Upon by First Lady to Help Eradicate FGM, HIV Transmission

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Nigeria’s President, has called on Ondo State monarchs to assist in eliminating female genital mutilation and diseases such as Hepatitis B. Speaking in Akure, she urged traditional rulers to back her advocacy to end mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, and Tuberculosis.
“Ending female genital mutilation is one of our key priorities. It is a harmful and outdated tradition built on myths,” Mrs. Tinubu said. “It destroys the lives of young girls.”
As part of her Renewed Hope Initiative, she announced the distribution of 10,000 professional kits to nurses and midwives in the South-West and launched a menstrual hygiene campaign to provide sanitary pads to young girls in rural communities.
The Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye, commended the First Lady’s efforts and pledged prayers for the success of the Tinubu administration, praising her loyalty and visible support for her husband.
