BREAKING: Vatican Mourns as Pope Francis Passes Away at 88

The Vatican is in mourning following the death of Pope Francis, who died at 88 on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025. The pontiff, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was the first Latin American and Jesuit pope, serving for over 12 years.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, speaking from St. Peter’s Basilica, announced, “At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father.” Farrell described Francis as a leader who “taught us to live the values of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love—especially for the poorest and most excluded”.
Francis’ papacy was defined by a push for mercy, inclusion, and global justice. He battled health problems throughout his life, including a recent bout of pneumonia, but remained dedicated to his ministry until the end.
