PDP’s Umar Damagum Frames 2027 Election as Tinubu vs Nigerians

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the 2027 general elections will be a direct contest between President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian populace grappling with economic hardships, rather than a traditional political battle between parties. Speaking at the Certificate of Return presentation to Ezenwafor Jude, PDP’s Anambra governorship candidate, Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum said, “This election in 2027 is not about how many governors you have or how many leaders. It’s about Tinubu and Nigerians. The ordinary man is feeling the pain, and the decision is his.”

Damagum attributed the current economic difficulties to deliberate policies by the ruling APC, stressing, “It is APC versus Nigerians. It’s not APC versus any governor or senator or anything but APC versus Nigerians.” He urged Nigerians to unite and rescue themselves from the hardship “inflicted on us by design.”

Addressing recent defections from PDP in Delta State, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s move to APC, Damagum described it as “very sad and unfortunate,” highlighting PDP’s support for Delta leaders over the years despite their departure. “I thank God that in their message, they didn’t say that the party did anything wrong to them other than good,” he added.
