Justice Delivered: Lagos BRT Driver Sentenced to Death Over Murder of Bamise Ayanwola

In a landmark ruling on Friday, Justice Sherifat Sonaike of the Lagos State High Court at Tafawa Balewa Square sentenced Andrew Nice Ominikoron, a Lagos BRT driver, to death by hanging for the killing of 22-year-old fashion designer Bamise Ayanwola.
The court found Ominikoron guilty based on strong evidence, including the doctrine of “last seen” and the victim’s dying declaration.
Ominikoron was charged with multiple offenses: conspiracy, rape, murder, and sexual assault. The victim was last seen boarding the BRT bus driven by Ominikoron on February 26, 2022, at Ajah, Lagos. Her disappearance triggered a massive public outcry and search efforts.
Her body was found nine days later on Carter Bridge, Lagos Island, sparking nationwide condemnation. The verdict brings closure to a case that had caused widespread frustration and protests demanding justice for Bamise.
