BREAKING: EFCC Grants VDM Freedom After 5 Days In Detention
Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), a prominent social media influencer, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the release in an exclusive statement on Wednesday.
VDM’s release concludes a detention that triggered public protests and reignited national conversations about freedom of expression in Nigeria.
According to Adeyanju, the outcome reflects a cooperative effort between VDM’s legal team and the EFCC, helping to defuse tensions and prevent further escalation.
Deji Adeyanju while confirming the news, said: “VDM has been released. I undertook to produce him whenever he is required by the Commission or the court. I must say that the EFCC, particularly the chairman, Ola Olukoyede, was cooperative throughout this process, and for that, I am grateful.”
Recall that VDM was arrested on May 2, 2025, at a GTBank branch in Abuja, where he was addressing issues related to unauthorized deductions from his mother’s account.
As at the time of this report, no formal charges had been brought against him, raising questions about the legality of his detention and its broader implications for his activism.
