Cocaine Smuggling Ring Exposed: NDLEA Finds Drugs Hidden in Traditional Nigerian Caps and Gele

In a recent crackdown on drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) uncovered a sophisticated cocaine smuggling operation using traditional Nigerian ‘aso-ebi’ attire as a cover. The illicit drugs were concealed within male caps (‘fila’) and female headgears (‘gele’), popular cultural garments worn during ceremonies.
NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, took to X on Sunday to alert the public about this new method of drug concealment. “In case you’re asked to help take as part of your luggage to Europe or elsewhere any aso ebi fila and gele (traditional male cap and female headgear), the latest seizure of cocaine concealed in such materials uncovered by #ndlea_nigeria will make you think twice,” Babafemi warned.
The agency’s discovery is part of a broader campaign against drug trafficking, which recently included uncovering a massive hidden storage compartment in an oil tanker used to transport narcotics across the country, as reported last Sunday.
The NDLEA’s ongoing vigilance highlights the evolving tactics of traffickers and underscores the importance of public awareness in combating drug smuggling.
