Presidency Prepares Ministerial Scorecards as Tinubu’s Second Anniversary Nears

With President Bola Tinubu’s two-year mark in office just days away, the Central Results Delivery and Coordination Unit (CDCU) is poised to submit a fresh ministerial performance report covering the first quarter of 2025.
Presidency insiders disclosed to that ministries lagging behind are already under intense scrutiny.
Each ministry uploaded evidence of achievements last month to a secure CDCU portal, where a verification team led by Hadiza Bala-Usman is rigorously assessing and scoring them against commitments made at the October 2023 cabinet retreat.
An anonymous source revealed that “only a few ministers, including the Minister of Works, have done fairly well,” while many others scored poorly on key performance metrics.
Though no immediate cabinet changes are anticipated before May 29, the report will provide President Tinubu with the latest data to hold one-on-one reviews with ministers and identify areas needing improvement.
A senior presidency official explained, “Officials of the various ministries have uploaded the reports of their activities and projects on the portal provided by the CDCU… Scores have been assigned based on their findings. The final report for all the ministries is meant for the President.”
President Tinubu had previously emphasized performance-based retention for ministers, warning at the November 2023 Cabinet Retreat, “If you miss the objective, we’ll review it. If no performance, you leave us.”
The CDCU, established in mid-2023 and led by Bala-Usman, continues to play a pivotal role in tracking ministerial outputs and informing cabinet reshuffles, as seen in October 2024 when two ministers were removed following poor performance.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have condemned the government’s handling of security and economic challenges, calling for urgent reforms ahead of the 2027 elections.
