Lagos Environmental Taskforce Arrests 62 in Island Midnight Sweep

In a strategic crackdown on crime, Lagos State’s Environmental Taskforce conducted a midnight raid across Lagos Island on Friday, May 23, 2025, arresting 62 suspects.

The operation, which began at 1:30 a.m., focused on multiple high-activity areas including Victoria Island, Falomo, the Eko Hotel vicinity, Osborne, and nearby streets, where reports indicated a surge in undesirable activities.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the raid via his official X handle, emphasizing the operation’s role in the ongoing cleanup efforts across the state.

“In continuation of the agency’s clean-up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements, operatives of the Environmental Taskforce team set out at about 0130hrs on Friday, 23rd May 2025 and embarked on its ongoing clean-up enforcement operation on the Island,” Wahab stated.

He detailed that the operation targeted locations with observed disruptive conduct, adding, “The areas visited during the operation include Victoria Island, Falomo, Eko Hotel, Osborne and other adjoining streets where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.”

The raid culminated in the arrest of 59 males and 3 females, with Wahab confirming, “Sanity was restored in all the areas” and that “All the suspects will be charged to court accordingly,” reinforcing the government’s resolve to maintain law and order.
