Wike’s Tinubu 2027 Campaign Role Triggers Political Outrage Across Opposition

A fresh political controversy has erupted following FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s bombshell announcement that he will lead President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027, despite being a prominent figure within the opposition PDP.
Wike’s remarks, made during a press briefing in Abuja, have sent shockwaves across the political spectrum. He confidently described himself as instrumental to Tinubu’s political future: “Whether you want to die or you don’t want to die, I am an asset… to making sure Tinubu wins his second term.”
He staunchly denied allegations of anti-party conduct, daring the PDP to suspend him. “I worked hard for the party. Who is that person that can say I’m not a member?” he asked defiantly.
His comments, however, have drawn a strong rebuke from the PDP leadership. Timothy Osadolor, the party’s Deputy National Youth Leader, stated the party would not tolerate Wike’s conduct and that sanctions were forthcoming.
“This party is a party of process,” a senior PDP official stated. “At the right time, we shall enforce our laws on him.”
The CUPP also reacted strongly. Mark Adebayo accused Wike of sabotaging opposition unity, saying, “Wike is the President’s hatchet man… His assignment is to destroy opposition parties.”
NNPP’s spokesman echoed similar sentiments, arguing that Nigerian voters, driven by worsening hardship, will ultimately reject Tinubu in 2027, regardless of who leads his campaign.
Veteran politician Chief Bode George emphasized the PDP’s resolve to back a southern candidate in 2027. “It is still the turn of the South,” he stressed, adding, “We will not support Tinubu.”
This internal rift has reignited the debate over party loyalty, the relevance of zoning, and the moral obligations of political appointees.
