Kano Athletes’ Families Receive N22 Million Donation from Senate Deputy President Amid Mourning

Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin visited Kano on Tuesday to console the families of 22 athletes who died in a motor accident last weekend. The visit was held at the Gwagwarwa Juma’a Mosque in Nasarawa Local Government Area, where the families gathered to receive the condolence team.
Accompanied by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Yusuf Atta and North West Development Commission Managing Director Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, Senator Jibrin expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss. “We are here to register our condolences to you over this tragic and devastating incident that led to the loss of our brothers,” he said.
In a statement from his media office, Senator Jibrin emphasized that the loss is felt beyond the immediate families, touching the sports community, Kano State, and Nigeria at large. He prayed, “May Allah SWT grant them Aljannatul Firdausi and give you all the strength to bear these irreparable losses.”
To provide tangible support, the Deputy Senate President announced a donation of N1 million to each family, totaling N22 million. This financial assistance aims to help the families cope with their loss.
The condolence visit was warmly received by community leaders including Chief Imam Sheikh Adda’u Aliyu and ward heads Usman Aliyu and Rabe Isyaku. The Chief Imam thanked Senator Jibrin, saying, “We are happy and excited that you have found time to come here and sympathise with us. This means a lot to us. We can always see your tremendous interventions and projects going beyond your Senatorial District. May Almighty Allah reward you abundantly.”
The event concluded with prayers for the deceased athletes, marking a solemn tribute to their memories.
