During a two-day official visit to Enugu State, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was honoured with the chieftaincy title ‘Ugosimba 1 of Enugu’ by the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council on Tuesday. The title, which translates to “jewel” or “eagle from another kingdom,” symbolizes her esteemed status and contributions.

Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu, Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, praised Senator Tinubu’s extensive public service record and her humanitarian commitments. “You served three terms in the Senate and were honoured with the Commander of the Order of Niger. But beyond politics, we admire your compassion for the less privileged, your support for nurses and midwives, and your work in uplifting humanity,” he said, highlighting her multifaceted contributions.

In response, Senator Tinubu expressed her profound appreciation for the honour, emphasizing the peaceful nature of Enugu State and the warmth she felt since her arrival. She dedicated the title to her husband, President Bola Tinubu, and their family, underscoring that the recognition was a collective honour. “This is a special honour that I will cherish forever. I love your state—it is calm and welcoming. As you have honoured me today, Enugu State will be remembered for good,” she remarked.
